Baby Shower History

Posted in baby favors on April 25th, 2010 by Monica – Be the first to comment

The baby shower as we know it today started at the end of World War II and coincided with the beginning of the Baby Boom. During that time, it became common for families and friends to come together and celebrate the birth of a new baby in a party atmosphere. It’s true that initially, the tradition was that only women were invited to attend such gatherings. Today, these celebrations have grown to include fathers, grandfathers, and other family members – anyone closely associated with the new family was welcomed to the event.

When it comes to buying gifts, you’ll find that this process differs somewhat from the historical precedent. In recent times, the advent of technology has made predicting the baby’s gender much more reliable. Babies are often named now before they are born, so potential baby presents can now be gender specific. This is a relatively new trend, one that shows no signs of slowing down.

For parents that haven’t learned the gender of the baby, there’s still the tradition of giving gender neutral items at a shower. These can be gender neutral clothing, such as onesies or diapers, or may be items that will be useful for any baby, such as baby toiletries. Couple this with the blurring of gender roles – especially when caring for newborns – and you’ll find that it’s increasingly difficult to buy something that won’t work for a newborn.

I wonder where baby shower favors came from??

Baby Showers Galore

Posted in baby favors on February 22nd, 2010 by Monica – Be the first to comment

Wow, it seems like everyone around me is preggo again. I’ve had to attend several showers in the past month, with some of them being tame and then some of the are just off the hook! I tend to shy away from baby shower games so I don’t end up looking like a goof, but that doesn’t always happen. Take for example, the time I had to make a play-doh model of the mom-to-be’s son. I just so happened to make him, um, anatomically correct. Needless to say, I won that game.

Shower Invitations

Posted in baby favors, gifts for mom on August 27th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

I love all the different kinds of baby shower invitations that are on the market today. Now you can customize your invite to the party theme instead of the other way around when choices were limited. I think it makes for a more unique presentation. Of course, I love doing photo cards at Christmas, too!!

Baby Favors to Give or Use?

Posted in baby favors on October 24th, 2008 by admin – Be the first to comment

My friend is having me help setup her baby shower in the next coming months and we were looking for some cute cutouts for cookies or fruit that would have a baby or baby shower theme to them.  I searched everywhere including Target but I actually ended up running across some super cute cookie cutters in cute little shapes online.  Granted that they are meant to be passed out as baby favors, I thought they would make great cookies for the actual baby shower!  They have a rocking horse, baby bottle and cute little teddy bear shape that would make great cutouts for sugar cookies or fruit designs.  Enjoy!
